How Does Acupuncture For Labour Help In Easing The Pain?

Pregnancy is one of the most important and sensitive period for a woman. She undergoes many hormonal and physical changes in this period, added to that she needs to undergo labour pain as well. In a few medical cases, it becomes important for the doctor to use acupuncture for labour so that the outcome would be better for the would-be mother and the child.

Doctors adopt this complementary therapy for women who cannot continue with the pregnancy. The few reasons for induction include:

Pregnancy going beyond the due date

Pre-term or pre-labour rupture of membranes

Poor baby growth

Mother or child’s health

Women prefer this traditional therapy, apart from conventional medical practice, just to make it easy for the mother and child. It also assures parents that the child would be safe as the use of medicines is eliminated. Many midwives and doctors practice the technique of inserting needles at the correct place, with usual care that eases the process of labour.

Studies have proven that acupuncture and acupressure would not reduce the chance of a caesarean section, but would increase the readiness of cervix for labour. The results would surely vary with the woman’s body type and other health issues, including the position of the baby.

This ancient technique of medicine works differently for every person and every situation. In some cases, both the mother and child are ready but need one push, which can be provided by the acupuncture, while others would need a c-section, even after using the technique.
